En(courage)ment for hard times, God Speaking, Stories of Answered Prayer

what we wouldn’t give for a good listener

One of the worst things in the world is to feel that we are not being listened to when we speak, and almost the second worst is to not be responded to sincerely. On a good day for humans, these are difficult skills to master. Even if we had to wait for undivided attention or a heartfelt response, instead of a distracted hearer or a rapid reply, we would. It would mean so much. We have waited so long.

Oh, the wounds we carry because of these two small devaluations. Some of us have given up on being heard and affirmed. Some of us have given up on people, churches, friendships, family members, spouses, romance, adventure.

Perhaps it is an epidemic. Feeding into cynicism, racism, materialism and all the other empty isms.

If you have felt unheard over and over, and have wished for a true and profound response, but have been disappointed again and again, know this today:

You have Heaven’s ear. At every moment, you have been given audience with the best Listener there is, a Father, Comforter, Counselor, Guide and Friend. Only speak. Only believe He listens. This small thing can change your life.

Especially when you start to see Him respond.

Because He does. I have a thousand circles and dates in my journals to prove it, drawn round friends’ names, and needs and tricky situations and tragic events and heart’s desires. Hopes both silly and serious, and all of them were treated as valid. Every tear was noted. Every victory applauded. Everything heard. I have learned to trust His timing. Because He delays sometimes on His reply does not mean He is ignoring or scoffing or sighing.

He is perfecting the story. Speaking through me. Making a way out. Building my character. Teaching me endurance. Training me to persevere. Planning a miracle.

I have proof of undivided attention and a great and varied response on the part of Heaven.

It has changed my story.

You can have it too. There is a peace that comes through prayer. A healing of our unmet needs. A centeredness that brings humility and balance. A wholeness.

People are great. But we are hungry. They can’t make us full.

There is another Who for that…

All your need to be heard? All your hope for wisdom and kindness and revelation?

You have Heaven’s ear.

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3

  1. Every tear noted, every victory applauded. Oh yes indeed. Another touching reminder. Thank you.
